The New York Giants and New Orleans Saints had a barn burner at the Superdome.

49. 31. Final. 52. 15

This game was one of the most ridiculous displays of defense you will ever see, or one of the most masterful displays of quarterback skill ever. The New York Giants and the New Orleans Saints had a shoot out at the Superdome, but teams throwing touchdowns at will.

Quarterbacks Eli Manning and Drew Brees took turns throwing touchdown passes and rewriting the record book. Odell Beckham Jr led the people catching touchdown category, which was extensive, with three. He was one of four players to catch multiple touchdowns in the game.

With the game tied at 42 apiece in the fourth quarter, a hit by Giants corner back Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie knocked the ball loose and Trumaine McBride recovered a ball hovering in mid-air and returned it for the go-ahead touchdown.

Brees led a touchdown drive in the final two minutes of the game to tie the score. It was his seventh touchdown in a game, tying an NFL record.

The Giants were held and forced to punt, and it was returned to midfield but fumbled. The Saints recovered the fumble at the 47-yard line and was the victim of a facemask from the punter, putting the Saints on the 32-yard line with five seconds left in the game and a chance at a field goal for the win.

Kai Forbath delivered giving the Saints the win.

The 101 combined points was the third most in NFL history.

Three stars

  1. Drew Brees, QB, Saints – Threw an NFL record-tying 7 touchdown passes, for 511 yards, completed 80% of his passes and just one interception.
  2. Eli Manning, QB, Giants – Manning was nearly perfect, throwing six touchdowns and zero interceptions.
  3. Odell Beckham Jr, WR, Giants – Odell Beckham Jr caught three touchdown passes.

Highlights

The Saints dialed up the flea flicker.

Brandin Cooks had a 26-yard touchdown.

Marques Colston had a 53-yard touchdown.

This game also included a rare punter celebration.

Odell Beckham had already scored two touchdowns, but his third was the most impressive of the bunch.

Brees found Cook again for a touchdown.

Manning fired back with a touchdown pass.

The Giants were able to finally get the lead in the fourth quarter with a bizarre turnover.

Odds

The Saints were favored by three points at home and the over/under was set at 51. Needless to say, this shootout blew past the over/under, nearly doubling it which is even more unbelievable.

The Saints won by three, pushing on the spread.

Next Week

The Giants travel again next week to take on another NFC South team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Saints stay at home and welcome the lowly Tennessee Titans to the Superdome.
