Before he took the mound for Game 5 of the 2015 World Series, Royals pitcher Edinson Volquez honored his father in the most heartwarming way possible

Everyone who paid the slightest attention to the World Series that just concluded on Sunday night remembers the story from Game 1 last Tuesday. The starting pitcher for the Kansas City Royals in that game was Edinson Volquez, and as the game got underway against the New York Mets, we learned that he had lost his father that day. Furthermore, we would come to find out that he himself didn’t even know as he was out there doing his job.

Well, in Game 5 on Sunday night, the game that would end up being the clincher for the Royals, Volquez took the mound once again to see if he could help this team to a title. Some still could not even fathom how he could be out there after just a few days, but he indeed was ready to get the work done for this Kansas City team.

However, he did not let his father go unrecognized. No, before his first pitch, he went behind the mound and he drew the initials of his father in the dirt in one of the greatest gestures you will ever see.

There will be a lot of pictures from this World Series that will live on forever, but quite frankly, the image of Volquez doing this on Sunday might be the most memorable one of all.
