Jayhawks goal posts torn down celebrating Royals World Series win
By Paulo Acoba
When your home team wins the World Series, fans will find new ways to celebrate the win, even honing in on some other sports customs.
Every hometown has their own way of celebrating their professional teams winning it all. When the Warriors won the 2015 NBA Championship title, a good number of Oakland’s fans took to the streets and did a couple of burnouts, closing down some intersections.
According to SB Nation, it looks like some burly University of Kansas fans took to Memorial Stadium, broke in, and ripped one of the goal posts straight out of the ground in the middle of the night, likely in celebration of the Kansas City Royals winning their first World Series since 1985. Check out some of the pictures making their rounds on social media below!
A quick look on Google Maps reveals that whomever ripped out those goalposts traveled a bit with them before setting them on the banks of Potter Lake. A good tenth of a mile lies between the lake and the stadium.
From the looks of things, it looks like Jayhawks fans need to vent a bit of pressure anyways as their NCAA football record couldn’t be more dim. Currently, they sit at 0-8 for the season.
We can’t seem to get that image out of our minds of a couple of students carrying an eighteen foot wide, forty-foot-tall goalpost a good distance across campus. We’re surprised not a single camera caught the offending parties.
The quote of the week for this entire debacle has to come from the University of Kansas’s newspaper itself which was quoted to say
"“Everybody is thrilled about the Royals championship. We’ve all enjoyed watching them all year long, Marchiony said. “But we thought the slogan was take the crown, not take the goalpost.”"
