The NBA’s Best Highlights of Week 1
The Chef is cooking
The best way for 2014-15 MVP and NBA champion Stephen Curry to begin his season? With a scorching hot 24 point first quarter. He destroyed the Pelicans’ defense in the opening period, and the Warriors went on to win 111-95 as Curry finished with a stellar stat line of 40 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds and 2 steals.
The Chef is still cooking
Well, we might as well look at his 53 point game, too.
Gasol’s game saving block
Not only did the Bulls beat LeBron James’ Cavaliers 97-95 on opening night, but they did so in spectacular fashion. Thanks to Pau Gasol’s last second rejection of LeBron’s layup attempt, they were able to seal the deal.
Aaron Gordon: The Magic’s put-back man
It’s not just high-flying dunks, though. Gordon also added a powerful rejection as he came flying in behind Drew Gooden for a block late in the first quarter. He’s proving that his athleticism and motor can make a difference at both ends of the floor.
Swaggy P being Swaggy from 40 feet out
Nick Young has never been an efficient player, but at least he can bury big shots from time to time like this one.
CJ McCollum 22 point quarter and 37 point opening night
He even buried a smooth four-point play in the first quarter for good measure, too. Talk about starting as you mean to go on, especially in what should be a career year for McCollum with a depleted Blazers squad.
Justise Winslow dunks all over the Charlotte Hornets
The Hornets passed on Winslow in the 2015 NBA draft, and he didn’t hesitate to posterize them with authority in his first game.
Marcus Smart’s deep fading three
Smart’s three point percentage is up to 36.4 percent so far this season, although he still won’t expect to make many threes while falling out of bounds off one leg.
Russell Westbrook going crazy
He plays crazy, and in the Thunder’s double overtime win against the Magic, he achieved crazy success. From the near 50 point triple double to the unbelievable 40 foot three to force overtime, Westbrook put together a game to remember.
Finally, a little more Westbrook
Point guards just aren’t supposed to throw down one-handed put-back dunks over multiple players. But that’s what Westbrook can do.
