5 Potential Replacements for Ken Whisenhunt
By John Buhler
The Tennessee Titans relieved Head Coach Ken Whisenhunt of his duties. Where do the 1-6 Titans look for their next head coach?
The Ken Whisenhunt Era in Nashville was disastrous for the Tennessee Titans. In 23 games leading the Tennessee Titans, Whisenhunt won only three games, boasting an appalling .130 winning percentage in his second gig as a head coach.
Whisenhunt has had success as a quarterback whisper both in Pittsburgh (Ben Roethlisberger, 2004-06) and in San Diego (Philip Rivers, 2013) as both franchises’ offensive coordinators. He led the Arizona Cardinals to their only Super Bowl appearance to date in 2008 (Super Bowl XLIII).
Since Ken Whisenhunt took over the Tennessee Titans after Mike Munchak in 2014, Tennessee tied for the worst record in football last season, selected 2014 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Marcus Mariota second overall in the 2015 NFL Draft out of Oregon, and now find themselves with the worst record in football entering Week 9 in 2015. Three wins in 23 chances left the Adams family no choice but to move on from their former head coach.
Tennessee is an intriguing head coaching gig, as the Titans have a promising young quarterback prospect in Marcus Mariota, a surprisingly strong front seven, and play in the weakest division in the NFL: The AFC South. Though a more appealing job may open up by Black Monday, the Titans organization is in a prime spot to attract strong head coaching candidates. Here are five potential replacements for Ken Whisenhunt in 2016.
