2. Houston Texans

The Houston Texas have suddenly become playoff contenders at 3-5, ranked second in the AFC South behind a very weak 3-5 Indianapolis Colts team.

Back up quarterback Ryan Mallett was recently released after missing the team flight to the Dolphins game. Starting quarterback Brian Hoyer has had several strong games, but is not the future of the Texans squad.

While Hoyer is able to avoid interceptions and rack up decent yardage, he has struggled against competitive teams, losing to the Falcons, Colts, and Dolphins. His victories have been against Tampa Bay, Jacksonville, and Tennessee, all incredibly weak teams.

The Texans need a quarterback who will help them compete outside of the AFC South. With Kaepernick available, the team might consider bringing him in to boost the team’s chances of a post-season appearance.

DeAndre Hopkins is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. The Texans’ offensive line has been inconsistent, but Kaepernick would have plenty of tools at his disposal to play at a higher level than he has in San Francisco.
