Malcom Floyd-WR-San Diego Chargers (27.6%)

The Chargers didn’t escape the injury bug as they traveled to Baltimore and ended up losing on a last second Justin Tucker field goal.  To make the loss even more painful, the team lost top receiver Keenan Allen who is out indefinitely with a kidney injury. Coach Mike McCoy wouldn’t put a timetable on his return but only said, “he’s going to miss some time.”

In Allen’s absence, Malcom Floyd will get the chance to step up into a bigger role and coulee even be the team’s top receiver for the coming weeks.  Stevie Johnson is also a good pickup, but Floyd has been drawing more targets lately from Philip Rivers.  With Rivers running a pass-heavy offense, Floyd should see plenty of passes coming his way, and he reminded us this Sunday how much he can do when he is hitting on his big plays.

Floyd had four catches against the Ravens finishing with 92 yards and two touchdowns.  One score came on a 70-yard bomb, and he also had a nine-yard strike.  He led the team in targets with six, and if you can grab the ten-year veteran off the fantasy football waiver wire he offers enough upside to be a solid start in a bye-week thinned week 9.

The Chargers’ own bye week is coming in week 10, but before that they’ll take on the Bears in a favorable matchup this coming Monday night.. After they bye, Floyd will have the Chiefs and Jaguars in two more favorable matchups. If Tavon Austin is gone and you can’t wait for Kamar Aiken, check out Floyd as the third-best receiver addition this week.
