Vernon Davis-TE-Denver Broncos (15.2%)

Vernon Davis has had a disappointing season and disappeared from the top ten tight ends after a slow fade.  In his tenth season out of Maryland, Davis looked to be done, but all that changed quickly on Monday when the veteran was traded from the offensively-challenged 49ers to Peyton Manning’s offense in Denver for a pair of sixth-round picks.

Davis has been dealing with injuries and team dysfunction this season, but he did have eight catches for 109 yards total in his last two games.  Moving to Denver is a great thing for Davis’s fantasy value although he’ll need to beat out incumbent options Owen Daniels and Virgil Green.  Davis has the most athletic ability and upside of the trio, but he doesn’t have a rapport yet with Peyton Manning.

If you can grab Davis and not start him right away, that would be the ideal situation, but he can be played right away if you don’t have a top ten option or have been piecing the position together week by week.  We all know how good Peyton can make his tight end, and I expect a career renaissance for Davis as he goes from one of the worst offenses in the league to having Peyton Manning passing him the ball.  No matter what you think of Manning’s struggles this season, it’s a big upgrade and a huge opportunity for Davis to re-emerge as a TE1.
