83-79, 2nd in AL Central

The Twins were one of the big surprises in the Majors, as they stayed in contention for a Wild Card spot until the season’s final weekend even with a very young roster. If Minnesota can use this successful season as a springboard, it should compete for the AL Central crown next year.

Minnesota’s loaded farm system was expected to be a year or two away entering the season. However, a number of young players like Miguel Sano, Eddie Rosario and Aaron Hicks were able to make meaningful contributions in 2015.

No prospect looked more promising than Sano, who could be one of the game’s best power hitters as soon as next season. Sano clubbed 18 home runs and posted a 151 wRC+ in just 80 games per FanGraphs.

Top prospect Bryon Buxton turned in a disappointing season, but that could have been expected at 21 years old with not too many games played in the minors. Once Buxton is up to speed and a couple more prospects come up, Minnesota should be in great shape.

There is still some work to be done, particularly on the pitching side, and the Twins have to be a little upset with how the second half played out. Still, 2015 was a major win for Minnesota.

Success. Despite falling short of the playoffs, the Twins took a huge step forward behind some promising young talent.
