3. The Houston Texans are playoff contenders

One of the teams from the AFC South will make the playoffs this year. It is time to face the sad fact that the Houston Texans, at 3-5, are playoff contenders.

The main source of AFC South victories are match ups within the division. The Texans latest victory was over the incompetent, Marcus Mariota-less Tennessee Titans who are at the bottom of the division with a record of 1-6.

The Houston Texans are ranked No. 8 in the league in total offensive yardage. Yards really don’t matter if you can’t get into the endzone to score, and that has been the problem with the Texans this year. With 21.8 points per game, the Texans are 19th in the league in scoring.

Their pass defense is the only bright spot on the other side of the ball. Allowing only 227.4 passing yards per game, the Texans are No. 6 in the league. The statistic that matters the most– points allowed- is 22nd in the NFL.

There is no official ranking for dysfunction, but these playoff contenders have certainly seen their fair share so far this year. Most recently, the team released backup quarterback Ryan Mallett who struggled to show up on time to important appointments (like the team’s flight to a game.)
