92. 1933 New York Giants

91-61, AL Champions, Won World Series 4-1 Over Washington

The 1933 New York Giants were certainly a great team with a terrific pitching staff, headlined by Hall of Fame ace Carl Hubbell, who posted a 23-12 record with a 1.66 ERA in 308.2 innings across 45 appearances including 33 starts. Hubbell tossed 22 complete games, including ten shutouts, and has retroactively been credited with five saves. Hal Schumacher (19-12, 2.16), Freddie Fitzsimmons (16-11, 2.90), and Roy Parmalee (13-8, 3.17) made up the best starting rotation in the National League, and the Giants won 91 games largely on the strength of a 2.71 team ERA.

Offensively, Hall of Famer Mel Ott hit .283/.367/.467 with 23 home runs, 103 RBI and an NL-leading 75 walks. Ott teamed with Johnny Vergez (16 HR, 72 RBI) and Bill Terry (.322/.375/.423) in the National League’s most powerful lineup: the Giants’ 82 long ball led the league.

After beating the Pittsburgh Pirates in five games in the NL standings, the Giants won the World Series in five games over the Washington Senators.
