93-58, AL Champions, Won World Series 4-2 Over Chicago
The 1935 Detroit Tigers won the American League by three games over the New York Yankees with a solid combination of hitting and pitching. The Tigers had the AL’s highest scoring offense (918 runs) and ranked in the top three in the league in nearly every offensive category, including an AL-best .290 batting average, .366 on-base percentage and .435 slugging.
Hank Greenberg won his first MVP Award with a .328/.452/.450 slash and a league-leading 36 home runs and 168 RBI. Charlie Gehringer (.330/.409/.502, 19 HR, 111 RBI), Goose Goslin (.292/.355/.415, 9 HR, 111 RBI) and Mickey Cochrane (.319/.452/.450) also provided plenty of offensive firepower.
The pitching staff was similarly talented, with Schoolboy Rowe (19-13, 3.69) and Tommy Bridges (21-10, 3.51) leading the way. Detroit ranked No. 2 in the AL in ERA (3.82) and led the league with 87 complete games and 16 shutouts.
The Tigers met the 100-win Chicago Cubs in the World Series, and won the first World Championship in franchise history in a hard-fought six games, including three one-run victories.
