58. 2013 Boston Red Sox

97-65, AL East Champions, Won World Series 4-2 Over St. Louis

Just one season after the franchise stumbled to a 69-93 regular season record and a last place finish in the AL East, the 2013 Boston Red Sox won the East and posted the best record in the American League (and tied for the best in Major League Baseball) at 97-65.

Following a 3-1 series win over the Wild Card Tampa Bay Rays in the ALDS, and a 4-2 series victory over the Detroit Tigers in the ALCS, Boston captured its third AL pennant, and subsequently, its third World Championship since the end of the 86-year title drought in 2004 by beating the St. Louis Cardinals in six games in the Fall Classic.

Only David Ortiz remained from that charmed ’04 championship club, and the 37-year old slugger led the Red Sox with a .309/.395/.564 slash, 30 home runs and 103 RBI, but the ’13 Boston club had a very similar look to their ’04 counterparts – especially when it came to facial hair. Dustin Pedroia (.301/.372/.415, 9 HR, 84 RBI), Mike Napoli (23 HR, 92 RBI), Jon Lester (15-8, 3.75), Clay Buchholz (12-1, 1.74) and Koji Uehara (1.09, 21 saves) carried much of the load for Boston’s most recent title winners.
