35. 1993 Toronto Blue Jays
95-67, AL East Champions, Won World Series 4-2 Over Philadelphia
In an effort to repeat as World Champions, the 1993 Toronto Blue Jays were busy during the off-season and signed free agent stars Paul Molitor and former World Series MVP Dave Stewart. Stewart (12-8, 4.44) couldn’t regain the form that made him a top-four finisher in the Cy Young Award race each year from 1987-90, but Duane Ward (2.13, 45 saves), Pat Hentgen (19-9, 3.87) and Juan Guzman (14-3, 3.99) all finished in the top seven of the Cy Young voting and the Molitor signing paid off in a big way.
Molitor, the 36-year old future Hall of Famer put together a strong regular season performance with a .332/.402/.509 slash with a Major League-leading 211 hits in addition to a career-high 22 home runs and a then-best 111 RBI to finish as the runner up in the AL MVP voting. Toronto won the American League East with a record of 95-67, beat the Chicago White Sox four games to two in the ALCS, and made it back to the Fall Classic for the second year in a row.
After hitting .500/.571/1.000 with two home runs in the 4-2 series victory over the Philadelphia Phillies, Molitor was named World Series MVP. However, star outfielder Joe Carter (33 HR, 121 RBI) hit a walk-off home run in Game 6 in one of the most iconic moments in baseball history.
