2. Terry Collins, New York Mets

In his 11th season as a Major League manager, Terry Collins’ New York Mets not only won the National League East, but represented the Senior Circuit in the 2015 Fall Classic. Collins’ club has the pitching and the deep pockets of a major market team to contend for a World Series Championship, even if the Mets end up losing many marquee names to free agency.

Not that Collins is a top-notch manager by any means, but he has his New York club believing in each other. After four consecutive seasons of sub-.500 baseball, the Mets rallied to win 90 games and get the three-seed in the National League. The Mets probably benefitted from playing two playoff stricken teams in the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Chicago Cubs to get to the World Series, but it still takes great leadership to advance deep into the postseason.

It’s the intangible qualities of Terry Collins that seems to give the Mets a bit of an edge when they play. That grit and determination should continue into 2016. While the New York Mets likely won’t gel as well as the did in the second half in 2015 next season, they should still emerge as the favorites to win the National League East.

Collins did get his team to sweep the best tactician in baseball in the Chicago Cubs Joe Maddon to advance to the 2015 World Series. Terry Collins stock is at an all-time high after that World Series appearance. Having the best starting rotation in all of baseball only makes him and his team look better.
