A reunion in Detroit with Price would make plenty of sense for a club that could use a huge boost as quickly as possible. The only question is if the interest would be mutual.

After a long period of success, the Tigers completely fell apart in 2015, finishing last in the AL Central with a 74-87 record. Injuries to the offense didn’t help matters, but Detroit’s pitching staff was a mess outside of Price himself before the trade deadline and a strong finish from Justin Verlander.

The window just might be shut for a team who has mortgaged the future over the past few years with no World Series rings to show for it. Just about the only solace for Detroit was that it got some decent pieces in return for Price and Yoenis Cespedes to help improve a weak farm system.

However, the Tigers may have enough to make one last run over the next year or two. Healthy seasons from Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez would be huge, and a couple of young pitchers like Daniel Norris have shown some promise.

If the Tigers were to add Price and get a good season out of Verlander, they could be in business. That’s a lot of “ifs”, but Detroit isn’t going to mind the risk at this point and is more than willing to add the payroll.

The only question is if Price would want to sign with a team that could be in a very ugly situation three or four years down the road. For that reason, the Tigers can’t be considered the favorite to add Price, but they are certainly on the radar.
