San Francisco Giants

There’s one team that would give Chris Davis the chance to wear black and orange again in 2016 if he doesn’t re-sign with the Orioles. That team? The Giants. The Giants already have Brandon Belt, who is a decent first baseman, but Belt does not begin to compare to Davis.

There are two factors that could work in the Giants favor when courting Davis. The first is that they would give Davis a winning environment and likely a chance to win at least one World Series. The Giants are approaching dynasty status. They won the World Series in 2010, 2012, and 2014. Davis has only appeared in the playoffs one time (2012) because he was suspended back in 2014 when the Orioles went to the ALCS. Davis is a competitive guy who wants to win. The Giants would certainly be a great fit for him because that’s what the Giants do, they win.

The second factor? Bruce Bochy. Bochy is similar to Buck Showalter in that he is a player’s manager. His players generally love playing for him and he’ll defend his guys as much as he can. Showalter is the same kind of guy. That’s a reason that Davis loved playing for Showalter. Bochy could be the next best thing to Buck for Davis.

The third factor is that the Giants have the payroll to give Chris Davis what he wants. The Giants consistently have one of the higher payrolls in the majors. They don’t tend to sign free agents, preferring to extend their own players. Davis is the kind of guy who the Giants should at least consider signing in free agency.

There is one issue with Davis and the Giants. AT&T Park in San Francisco tends to be cruel to home run hitters with the lowest HR factor in all of baseball in 2015. That said, if anyone has the power to conquer the infamous San Francisco wind, it’s Chris Davis.
