MLB Free Agency: 5 potential landing spots for Chris Davis
Seattle Mariners
The Mariners could be an interesting fit for Chris Davis. The Mariners have gone from a small market team to pushing a big market team thanks to their recent free agent splashes. They signed Robinson Cano in 2013 and Nelson Cruz in 2014. The Orioles were banking on Cruz and Davis to form a dynamic duo in their lineup back in 2014. Davis struggled all year so that didn’t happen. Perhaps the Mariners will try to make it work in Seattle?
The Mariners would make sense for Davis. The Mariners should be a competitive team in 2015 if they can stay healthy. Davis would give the Mariners a middle of the order that could be one of the best in baseball. Cruz, Davis, and Kyle Seager would be an incredible combo in Seattle’s lineup. They also need a long-term first baseman. Logan Morrison might be a superstar on Twitter, but he is not one on the baseball field.
The Mariners could probably afford to sign Davis. He would likely have to take a small discount, but that’s something that he might do if he gets to play alongside Cano and Cruz. The Mariners have also proven that they aren’t afraid to make a free agent splash. Chris Davis would be a pretty huge free agent splash.
Working against the Mariners could be a fellow AL East team who Davis would be a perfect fit for.
