Baltimore Orioles

Like the Giants, the Baltimore Orioles had less than favorable results from their outfielders in 2015. However, unlike the Giants, the problem was completely of their own doing, as the Orioles simply made some poor decisions last winter.

After the 2014 season, Baltimore was faced with replacing two-thirds of their outfield after watching Nelson Cruz and Nick Markakis depart via free agency. Rather than secure a high-end talent to replace either in the corners, the Orioles instead opted to bet on smaller pieces, landing Travis Snyder in a trade and signing Delmon Young. However, both players were disappointments and the team was unable to get results from Alejandro De Aza either.

Baltimore is starting over again this winter and looking to fill the same holes. However, this time, the Orioles will go about their business in a different manner and aim a bit higher in regards to player quality.

Gordon’s career slash line of .269/.348/.435 would be a significant upgrade over the .210/.283/.353 mark the team received from its left fielders during the 2015 season. Additionally, Gordon would give the team the defensive outfield it has missed since losing Markakis prior to last season.

Of course, the question with the Orioles isn’t need. Rather, it is whether owner Peter Angelos will allow the team to spend as needed. With a number of free agents, including first baseman Chris Davis, Baltimore may have to pick and choose where they prioritize. However, Gordon may be the smart grab here.
