C.J. Spiller-New Orleans Saints

The Saints brought in C.J. Spiller this past offseason and the former Clemson Tiger playmaker got some nice sleeper buzz leading up to the season. However, he was injured early and found himself behind Mark Ingram and Khiry Robinson who were handling almost all of the snaps at running back.

Last Sunday, though, Robinson was lost for the season in the Saints’ win over New York.  With Robinson out of the picture, there should be more work for Spiller this week as he and the Saints take on Antonio Andrews (my last sleeper) and the Titans.

Spiller probably won’t inherit Robinson’s role as a bruising goal line option, but look for coach Sean Payton to find ways to maximize Spiller’s skills as s receiver and all-around playmaker.  Last week, Spiller caught his second game-winning touchdown of the year and took his four carries for 21 yards.

Since he’s still firmly behind Mark Ingram for workload his ceiling is still limited, but he’s a great value play for weekly leagues (DraftKings-3,100, FanDuel-5,500).  Spiller is also on waiver wires in almost 30% of ESPN leagues and makes a nice speculative pickup to see what his new role is in the Saints backfield
