Why Spectre is Perfect as Daniel Craig’s Last Bond Film
By Alex Brannan
Daniel Craig has been vocal about the future of his role as James Bond. With the possibility of Craig not returning for another Bond film, we look at Spectre through the lens of it being Craig’s final Bond film.
Caution: Spectre spoilers ahead.
In October, during an interview in TimeOut, Daniel Craig stirred up conversation about the future of Bond by stating that he would rather “slash his wrists” than play James Bond in another film.
Currently, his status in Bond 25 is up in the air. His contract has him slated for one more movie, and in a recent interview with Today, Craig clarified his comments.
Whatever the case, there is a possibility that Spectre is the last time we will see Craig as the super spy. But, is the movie a proper exit for the actor?
In my eyes, it certainly is.

Spectre may be suffering from lukewarm reviews from critics. However, it does something interesting that makes the film a perfect sendoff for Craig.
In the movie we get the reintroduction of Ernst Stavro Blofeld, Bond’s greatest and most iconic adversary. Blofeld informs Bond that he has been the “author of all [his] pain.” This is to say, all of the villains in the previous Craig Bond films worked through Blofeld’s crime syndicate, SPECTRE, in one way or another.
So, what’s the point?
Spectre gives somewhat of a retrospective of Craig’s previous films. In one scene, Bond stalks through the bombed out MI6 headquarters, looking into rooms to find photographs of Silva, Vesper Lynd, and M. The film wraps up Craig’s tenure as Bond into a neat bow by stringing all of the stories toward one massive end: SPECTRE.
Now that SPECTRE has been re-established into the world of Bond, the franchise has the opportunity to gravitate to the more classic Bond formula. This makes Bond 25 a perfect place for a new actor to come in and put a new take on the franchise character.
