Former Minnesota Twins infielder Corey Koskie was good friends with Red Sox slugger David Ortiz in 2002. He now owns a pair of shoes with Ortiz’s face on them.

Back in 2002, the Minnesota Twins had Corey Koskie, Jacques Jones, Torii Hunter, LaTroy Hawkins, and David Ortiz on the same team. The Twins finished with a record of 94-67 and finished in first place in the AL Central. They lost to the eventual World Series champion Anaheim Angels (now the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim) four games to one in the ALCS. It was a pretty special team. Koskie recently showed just how close the team was on Twitter when he tweeted his old teammates to brag about his pair of kicks.

Even back in 2002, David Ortiz had a pretty impressive ego. When someone asked him where he could get a pair of shoes with Ortiz’s beaming face on them, Koskie admitted that he took them from Ortiz’s closet.

Why Koskie decided to break the shoes out ten years later (he might be confused because Ortiz was non-tendered by the Twins back immediately following the 2002 season) is beyond me. But those are some pretty sick shoes.

Koskie played in 989 games in the majors. He had 936 hits and 124 home runs. He finished his career with a surprising .825 OPS. He had excellent plate patience with a .275 career batting average and a .367 career OBP.
