Devin Funchess-WR-Carolina Panthers (7.1%)

The Panthers have been surprisingly good this season on offense especially when you consider how thin their wide receiver corps was after losing Kelvin Benjamin in the preseason.  Ted Ginn Jr. and Corey (don’t call me Phily) Brown have filled in admirably, but it may be time for rookie receiver Devin Funchess to emerge as a real weapon for Cam Newton and the Cats’ offense.

Funchess had his best game of the season last week against the Packers catching a season-high three passes for 71 yards and his first NFL touchdown.  Funchess is starting to flash the upside that Carolina saw when they drafted him in the second round out of Michigan, but the former Wolverine hadn’t put it together yet this year.

He’s a very high-risk pickup if you need help short term since he’s just starting to emerge, but Funchess could quickly become an important addition if you can afford to wait and let him continue to develop for a couple more weeks.  The Panthers are in Tennessee this week, and have a pretty favorable schedule the rest of the way.  While I doubt they’ll go undefeated, their offense should be able to continue to produce nice numbers giving Funchess a chance to be a dice-roll that pays off if you stash him off the waiver wire week 10.
