Who Should Be the Next Bond: Taron Egerton

Eon Productions may be looking for a new James Bond soon, so we here at Eye on Bond ponder: Who should play the next Bond?

Recent comments by Daniel Craig in an interview with Time Out have given rise to the rumor that Craig will not appear in another Bond film following Spectre. Given this possibility, it is time to suss out a worthy successor to portray the secret agent of superhero proportions.

Taron Egerton is a young actor with a world of possibilities in front of him. Splashing onto the scene with his lead role in 2015’s Kingsman: The Secret Service, Egerton is well on his way to acting success. He is already slated to play Robin Hood in a future Robin Hood origin story film, and he will appear in the announced Kingsman sequel. Not to mention Egerton will appear in the upcoming Tom Hardy vehicle Legend.

But Can Egerton play James Bond?

With Kingsman essentially being a souped up, 21st century take on a Bond film, Egerton certainly has experience playing a spy in a surprisingly successful film.

However, “Eggsy” isn’t Bond. Egerton’s spy is more childish than suave, more crude than debonair.

This isn’t to say that Egerton can’t transition into a Bond role. He has the youth to take on the demanding work of a big budget action film, and this youth could carry over to a long-standing tenure in the role.

The real question is whether Egerton is ready to take on such a huge name in cinema. He would be the youngest actor to take on the role (the actor is currently 26), and he has only appeared in three feature films.

Add to this that Egerton is a major player in Kingsman and its upcoming sequel. If Kingsman ends up becoming a competing franchise to Bond, it seems impossible that he would get the 007 role without abandoning Kingsman.
