27. Albertsons Stadium (Boise State)

Many know Boise State’s Albertsons Stadium as “Bronco Stadium,” or if you didn’t even know the name, it was probably just referred to as “the stadium with the blue turf.” Boise State is probably everyone’s favorite non-Power Five conference team, or at least it was until it started a trend for schools like TCU and Central Florida.

Everyone remembers the Fiesta Bowl in which Chris Petersen’s Broncos shocked the world and took down powerhouse Oklahoma on an incredible ‘Statue of Liberty’ trick play on a two-point conversion. Right then and there, the Broncos became America’s favorite Cinderella team.

Albertsons Stadium was built in 1970 and Boise State joined the FBS just 26 years later as the college football team with the most unique turf in all of sports.

When Boise State was planning to replace the regular green AstroTurf, then-athletic director Gene Bleymaier decided that a blue playing surface would give the school some national recognition and that eventually made the “Smurf Turf” a widely recognized claim to fame.

Like most other schools, the Broncos are planning future renovations to upgrade the stadium which was built 45 years ago.

Boise State also has one of the best home-field advantages in all of college football; the Broncos are 105-4 since the beginning of the 1999 season on the blue turf and currently hold a 19-game home win streak.
