The Oakland Raiders are fighting for a playoff spot in the AFC, and quarterback Derek Carr is leading the charge. Carr watched as the Raiders fell into a 13-0 hole on Sunday afternoon against the Minnesota Vikings at O.co Coliseum, but he has since dug his group out.

Oakland is leading 14-13 late in the second quarter because of Carr, who has thrown a pair of touchdowns. Carr’s second scoring strike was to Andre Holmes, hitting him on a 34-yard bomb. Holmes has good speed, making him a tough cover for any corner. Holmes is much like a lesser-Mike Wallace. He’s somebody who doesn’t run the full route tree, but can get open down the field and create the big play.

The Raiders are 4-4 and sitting second in the AFC West. If the playoffs were to start today, Oakland would be on the outside looking in but only by a half-game. The Raiders have not made the playoffs since 2002, something that is an embarrassing streak for one of the most stories franchises in the league.

Going into Sunday, Carr has thrown for 2,094 yards and 19 touchdowns against only four interceptions. Carr could be a Pro Bowler this season. Along with Tom Brady and Andy Dalton, Carr has arguably been the best quarterback in the conference.
