49. 18. 50. Final. 16

The Detroit Lions were supposed to be a slump buster for the reeling Green Bay Packers. They were supposed to be the punching bag that helped the Packers get back on track after two gut-wrenching defeats. And yet, a funny thing happened on the way to Lambeau Field: the Lions held tough and nobody really wanted to win the game.

Aaron Rodgers was pedestrian. James Starks tried to fumble the game away. Matt Stafford had himself a couple touchdowns and an interception. Ameer Abdullah and Joique Bell were a hair better than worthless. Aaaaaaand Matt Prater missed a pair of extra points to keep things interesting.

Everything you need to know about this game took place in the game’s final two and a half minutes: a slew of missed tackles and then a missed extra point and then inept Detroit defense and then Green Bay whiffing on the game-tying two-point conversion and then a botched onside kick by Megatron and then a chunked Mason Crosby kick – nobody grabbing the bull by the horns and claiming victory.

We should all just give a slow clap for every fan in the stands for watching this slop fest of ineptitude. At least the weather was nice. And the fifth quarter was probably fun. Everything else … woof.
