Atlanta Braves: 5 best trade options for Freddie Freeman
Boston Red Sox
Another AL East team in the Boston Red Sox could go after Freddie Freeman as well.
Last week, new GM Dave Dombrowski made his first big trade, sending a prospect package headlined by outfielder Manuel Margot to San Diego for closer Craig Kimbrel. It’s the first sign of him being aggressive to get the Red Sox stocked with talented players again, and seeing him go after Freeman to add to it wouldn’t be a surprise.
Boston is without a first baseman, too. Yes, David Ortiz can play the position if necessary, but he’s terrible defensively due to limited mobility, so he’ll stay at the designated hitter position in the lineup. Former starter Mike Napoli was also traded to the Texas Rangers in August. Travis Shaw played first base for the rest of the season and looked sharp, showing power with 13 home runs that he displayed in the minor leagues. However, with Dombrowski looking to put a winning team on the field, he could see Shaw as unproven and expendable.
Despite trading Margot, the Red Sox still have a pool of prospects, headlined by infielders Yoan Moncada and Rafael Devers. Moncada was a highly coveted Cuban player signed last offseason, but by former GM Ben Cherington, who is no longer with the organization. If putting Moncada in a deal will get Dombrowski Freeman, he may do it. John Hart would surely be happy about that.
Seeing the Red Sox in the mix for Freeman’s services wouldn’t be a surprise. Who else could join them?
