NFL Week 10 awards: Adrian Peterson is (still) quite good
By Brad Rowland
Week 10 Most Valuable Player
Ben Roethlisberger, QB Pittsburgh Steelers
For the life of me, I can’t understand why Ben Roethlisberger did not start against the Cleveland Browns.
For background, Roethlisberger suffered what looked to be a terrible foot injury in a Week 9 win over the Oakland Raiders. For all intents and purposes he looked to be unavailable for this game. However, the Steelers elected to make Roethlisberger active despite the ailment, though electing to insert backup Landry Jones into the starting lineup.
On cue, Jones suffered an ankle injury in the first quarter, and against all odds, Roethlisberger hobbled on to the field to play the rest of the game for the Steelers. As you may imagine by his inclusion here, “Big Ben” played terrific football.
Roethlisberger completed 22 of 33 passes for 379 yards and three touchdowns in a 30-9 win, and he posted a single-game QBR of 92.9 while notching a quarterback rating of 123.2. While he was unquestionably limited against pressure due to immobility, Roethlisberger routinely took shots while delivering the ball, and he surpassed any rational expectation given his physical condition.
Other quarterbacks may have been better in terms of visual performance, but no one was more impressive or valuable than Ben Roethlisberger … on one leg.
Runner-up: Kirk Cousins, QB Washington
