Who Should Be the Next Bond: Tom Hardy

Daniel Craig is unsure of whether or not he wants to come back for more James Bond films. Could Tom Hardy take over the role?

Daniel Craig has been on the fence about returning to the role of 007 James Bond, the Ian Fleming MI6 super spy. Most recently, he told Ellen DeGeneres that he didn’t know if he would return, but that he would “miss [the films] terribly” if he left.

With this uncertainty, there is plenty of speculation about who could adequately fill the shoes and fit the tuxedo of the secret agent.

Sitting near the top of the list is Tom Hardy.

Hardy has come to prominence in recent years with roles as burly masked supervillain Bane in The Dark Knight Rises and near-mute brutish wastelander Max Rockatansky in Mad Max: Fury Road.

These roles don’t scream James Bond, but Hardy’s filmography runs deep.

Starting his acting career with a small stint in the miniseries Band of Brothers, Hardy has gone on to a diverse set of roles. From the short fuse sadist Bronson in Bronson to the soft spoken family man in crisis Locke in Locke, Hardy has a range to his acting that is electrifying.

Hardy even acted alongside current Bond Daniel Craig in Layer Cake.

The English actor could conceivably tackle the role of Bond with little issue. But Hardy is a busy guy. Hardy is set to act in the television miniseries Taboo, which is currently in pre-production.

Additionally, if the announced Mad Max: Fury Road sequel comes to fruition, Hardy may be tied up in the film’s shooting schedule.

Personally, I would rather see Hardy play Max again than Bond. There are many options for the new Bond that would satisfy.
