The Kansas City Chiefs are trying to become the second team in NFL history to reach the postseason after a 1-5 start, following only the 1970 Cincinnati Bengals. On Sunday, the quest continues against the San Diego Chargers at Qualcomm Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Kansas City is favored by three points on the road, with an OVER/UNDER of 44.5, according to OddsShark. Last week, the Chiefs were three-point underdogs against the Denver Broncos and utterly humiliated Peyton Manning and Co., winning by 16 points.

The Chargers are coming off the BYE week and at 2-7, having little but pride to play for. San Diego is getting a terrific season from quarterback Philip Rivers, who signed a four-year extension before the season. Rivers is leading the league in passing yardage, already eclipsing 3,000. However, Rivers is without his two top receivers in Malcom Floyd and Keenan Allen. Floyd is out with a shoulder injury while Allen is on injured reserve with a kidney laceration.

Kansas City is sitting at 4-5 with three straight wins. The Chiefs are only one game out of the AFC playoff picture, despite being without running back Jamaal Charles, who tore his ACL in Week 5. Kansas City’s defense has been rolling in each of the past five weeks, allowing no more than 18 points in any of those games.

As for trends, the Chiefs might be the play. San Diego has only covered the spread once in its past 10 games at Qualcomm Stadium, a building which has turned into a house of horrors for the home team. Also, in the last six games between these two teams, the OVER has happened four times.
