David Shaw

The Stanford Cardinal have remained a great college football team after the departure of Jim Harbaugh, thanks in part to the tremendous coaching of David Shaw. Shaw has been the head coach of the Cardinal since 2011, and has been with the program since 2007.

It will probably take the right situation for him to leave a program where his job is very secure, but the Eagles would be a homecoming of sorts for Shaw. For those that don’t remember, Shaw was the quarterbacks coach for the team in 1997.

In fact, before Shaw left for Stanford, he had spent a majority of his career as an offensive coach in the NFL. He’s no stranger to being a coach in the league, and with his extensive experience as a head coach at Stanford, it could be time for him to finally make that jump as a head coach to the NFL.

Many have long wondered when Shaw was finally going to make that move, and there might be no better time then now. If Stanford wins the Pac-12 as many favor them to do, he will once again be a highly sought after candidate for a head coaching position in the NFL.

The run-first, pro-style offense that Stanford runs, will make Shaw appealing to many teams. If the Eagles and Chip Kelly do part ways, perhaps the best way to rid themselves of Kelly’s style of play, is to bring in a coach that knows how to run a pro-style offense.
