2. Mark Sanchez invents the ‘Butt Fumble’ (2012)

Mark Sanchez once led the New York Jets to a playoff victory over the New England Patriots. Mark Sanchez once looked like arguably the best quarterback that the Jets had suited up in quite some time. None of that will be his legacy, though. Especially with how he’s fallen off, Sanchez will forever be remembered for his 2012 Thanksgiving performance that included the unforgettable Butt Fumble.

Incidentally playing against the Patriots in the 2012 holiday matchup, the Jets were trying to erase a deficit in the second quarter. After Sanchez took the snap, there was apparent miscommunication and Sanchez botched the handoff. To try to recover, the New York quarterback took off himself. That’s when the most unfortunate yet simultaneously glorious moment happened.

Trying to break through the line, Sanchez ran into the rear-end of one of his lineman, causing him to lose his footing and drop the ball. The Patriots recovered the fumble and then returned it for a touchdown to go up 21-0 in the game, just to make the moment a little worse for the quarterback.

Whatever Sanchez once was in terms of an NFL quarterback, you could argue that this one moment ruined everything. It’s the first conversation topic that comes up regarding him and that’s not going to change. The Butt Fumble is one of those moments that’s far too humorous and unfortunate to ever forget.
