Five college football programs Chip Kelly is likely to end up at
For 29 years, Frank Beamer was at the helm for the Virginia Tech Hokies, turning the program into a prominent one. With Beamer stepping down at the end of the season, the Hokies will be looking for the next head coach to continue the tradition that Beamer left in Blacksburg.
It would be a complete 180-degree turn in direction for the program. Beamer had long put teams on the field that were defense first and would look to keep the other teams off the scoreboard. Chip Kelly is all about offense and putting points on the board. His teams are not afraid to get in a shootout, because they know they are going to win.
While it may not be an LSU or USC, the Hokies are a very good program and signing Kelly to be the next head coach would instantly make them a top team in the ACC. That would mean once again competing with the likes of Florida State and Clemson for conference glory.
Even better for the Hokies would be if they could keep Bud Foster around, who can run a dynamic defense in Blacksburg. Kelly would probably want to bring in his own guys, but those two together could create one terrifying team within the ACC.
It may not be the job that many envisioned Kelly to take if he were to return to college football, and the odds certainly wouldn’t be toward him ending up there, but it would be a pretty good job for Kelly to take. It would also be a place where he would have complete rule and could implement whatever he needed to make the Hokies into a championship contender.
