3) Shaky offensive line

As the defense has played lights out this season, the Denver offensive line has had significant struggles. While the free agent acquisition of Evan Mathis was meant to significantly increase the interior run game of the Broncos, both CJ Anderson and Ronnie Hilman have been inconsistent throughout the season, and Kubiak has struggled to establish an effective running game.

The Broncos’ offense has been the team’s biggest issue by far this year, and Kubiak’s version of the West Coast offense relies upon a strong running game, which then allows a plethora of bootleg and deep play action passes. However, the poor play of the offensive line, coupled with some damaging injuries, has limited the ability to forge a dominating running game.

Before the season started, Denver lost long serving left tackle Ryan Clady to a torn ACL. Rookie Ty Sambrailo was then placed on IR after injuring his shoulder three games in. The aforementioned Mathis has been banged up all year, as well.

If the Broncos cannot improve along the line, their offensive struggles may well continue down the stretch. It could become a major issue for Kubiak and his staff.
