NFL Week 12 awards: Russell Wilson keys Seahawks explosion
By Brad Rowland
Week 12 Most Valuable Player
Russell Wilson, QB Seattle Seahawks
The Sunday afternoon contest between the Seahawks and the Pittsburgh Steelers was, quite easily, the most entertaining game of the weekend. That isn’t the reason that Wilson takes home the MVP hardware for Week 12, but his performance was central to the fact that the game was fantastic.
Wilson completed 21 of 30 passes for 345 yards, and that type of production stands out in its own way when factoring in the type of offense that Seattle runs. However, Wilson’s performance was buoyed by five (!) touchdown passes, and he produced those scores without turning the ball over even once. The Seahawks were in a legitimate shootout with Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers, but Wilson (and Doug Baldwin) simply would not let Seattle lose.
It has been a rocky season for both the quarterback and the team, but everything fell into place for Russell Wilson on Sunday afternoon. Now the Seahawks are 6-5 and back in the thick of the NFC Playoff race, and Wilson is the central reason Seattle can make that claim. It is safe to assume that Week 12 will represent the best statistical performance of the season for him, but that isn’t exactly an indictment. He was genuinely fantastic on Sunday.
Runner-up: Matthew Stafford, QB Detroit Lions
