Chuck Pagano

Chuck Pagano is a textbook example of how quickly you can go from your seat being ice-cold to it being scorching hot in the NFL as a head coach. His first three seasons with the Colts? He had a 33-15 record in the regular season and even led the Colts to the AFC Championship game last season. Now? It seems like there is a huge rift between Pagano and Colts owner Jim Irsay.

Pagano seems to have lost the magic that he had in his first three NFL seasons. His Colts are 6-5 this season, but there’s no excuse for the Colts to have the 28th-best offense in the NFL. Even when one accounts for Andrew Luck’s inferior play when he’s been on the field, it’s worth noting that 2014 has been the only season in Pagano’s tenure when the Colts have had a top-five offense. Pretty horrendous if you consider that Pagano has had Andrew Luck for his entire coaching career. Pagano is likely expendable, especially if he doesn’t get along with the front office and/or Jim Irsay.

The Colts probably shouldn’t fire Pagano. He has done a good job with the team and he deserves to get at least one more chance to clean up his own mess with brand new offensive and defensive coordinators. But will the Colts fire Pagano? Don’t put it past Jim Irsay, who has proven that he will make the difficult decisions that he believes will help his NFL team get better, to fire a coach who he allegedly does not see eye-to-eye with.
