Black Panther is Marvel’s James Bond
By Alex Brannan
Actor Chadwick Boseman, when discussing his new Marvel character Black Panther, compared the character to James Bond.
In an interview earlier this year, Chadwick Boseman, one of the newest additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s wide arsenal of superheros, compared his character, Black Panther, to James Bond.
“He’s definitely not the life of the party in this instance,” Boseman said. “Not to say there’s not charm and he can’t be a ladies’ man and all that. It’s more like if there is humor, it’s more like James Bond.”
This isn’t to say that Marvel is taking aim at action film competitor James Bond, as the comparison initially suggests. Boseman is simply making the comparison to mark the seriousness with which his character handles his job.

What he might not understand, however, is the point of sheer absurdity that the James Bond humor can escalate to.
Let me provide you with some examples:
From Tomorrow Never Dies:
"Bond: “I always enjoyed learning a new tongue.”Moneypenny: “You always were a cunning linguist, James.”"
From Goldfinger:
"Pussy Galore: “My name is Pussy Galore.”Bond: “I must be dreaming.”"
From Die Another Day:
"Mr. Kil: “I’m Mr. Kil.”Bond: “Now there’s a name to die for.”"
More cheesy than dark, I’m afraid. Still, I can’t picture a man in a panther costume saying something like “You’re a woman of many parts, Pussy.”
Then again, it fits with the cat motif…
