DraftKings daily picks: Fantasy hockey lineup- December 4
High Salary D
Brent Burns-San Jose Sharks ($7,500): Brent Burns is by far the most expensive defenseman tonight. You won’t be able to afford him if you take some of the high-priced offensive guys, but Burns can give you some of the same production for a bit less than the forwards. Aside from a good matchup with the Ducks, he averages 5.4 fantasy points a game and hasn’t produced less than four fantasy points since the middle of November. If you’re looking to spend for D tonight, roll with Burns.
Torey Krug-Boston Bruins ($6,100): Krug is the second-most expensive defensive player tonight. If you want good production but don’t want to quite spend the money you need to for Burns, then go with Krug. Aside from the aforementioned great matchup with the Flames, he’s coming off a goal in his game against Edmonton on Wednesday and is now averaging 3.6 fantasy points a game, which is a good number for a fantasy defenseman. I’m expecting a lot of Boston action against Calgary, and it’s a safe bet that Krug will be involved somehow.
High Value D
Shayne Gostisbehere-Philadelphia Flyers ($3,400): After paying top dollar for offense, you can steal value with defense tonight. One of those guys is Philadelphia’s Shayne Gostisbehere. He took advantage of an opportunity in mid-November when Mark Streit went out and hasn’t looked back. He averages over 18 minutes a game, including time on the power play, and has racked up six points in just nine games. The downside to Gostisbehere is that not only has his price tag continued to rise, but he’s also a very popular play each night he’s on the ice. Even so, you can’t miss out on his production for such a low price.
Aaron Ekblad-Florida Panthers ($4,800): The most expensive of my value defenseman picks, but at $4,800, Ekblad is still a great price for the production he’s put out. As a young important part of an up-and-coming Florida team, Ekblad is finding a nice niche. He’s getting over 20 minutes a game of ice time and has 10 points in 24 games. He’s a cheap source of shots and a good bet for an assist. In a good matchup against the Blue Jackets, look for Ekblad to produce tonight.
Zach Bogosian-Buffalo Sabres ($3,800): Tonight looks like a good night for defensive value picks. One of those is Buffalo’s Zach Bogosian. The veteran blue-liner missed the first part of this season with an injury, but has been an important piece for Buffalo since his return. He’s played eight games and has two points, including his first goal of the season which came on Tuesday against Detroit. Tonight he goes up against Arizona, who’s coming off a game on Thursday and ranks 29th against opposing defenseman. Defense can certainly give you some value tonight, and Bogosian should be in your lineup.
