4. Ole Miss receiver Quincy Adeboyejo catch
Setting the scene: The Ole Miss Rebels are playing the Alabama Crimson Tide in Alabama during the third game of the college season. Ole Miss leads 17 to 10, but Alabama is a formidable opponent, so the game is still tense and competitive with 13:17 left in the third quarter.
The fourth quarter will bring a combined 33 points between the two teams, 13 from Ole Miss, and 30 from Alabama in a valiant, but fruitless attempt, to come out on top. Before the game ends in a final score of 43-37, less than two minutes in the third quarter, the CFB gods gifted this play to viewers everywhere:
That’s lanky, 6’3″, 195 lb junior wide receiver Quincy Adeboyejo with the big play. On the season, he has had 37 receptions for 581 yards and seven touchdowns.
The Rebels were ranked 15th going into their Week 3 victory against then-second ranked Crimson Tide. In fact, Alabama is still ranked second, and their only loss during the regular season was their Week 3 game against Ole Miss.
Ole Miss would go on to lose three games on the season, one to Florida (10-38), another to Memphis (24-37), and the third, a heartbreaker against Arkansas they lost by a maddeningly close score of 53-52.
Months after their September 19 victory against Alabama, the Adeboyejo play remains their most memorable. And, the win against Alabama is a painful reminder of a season gone awry. Ole Miss had the potential to make it to the playoffs.
