2. LSU running back Leonard Fournette

Leonard Fournette’s highlight reel consists of entire games. Drawing the attention of some of the greatest athletes and most prominent sports analysts of all time, Fournette attracted a fan-following that expanded well beyond LSU or even college football.

Fournette is only a sophomore, so unless he takes next season off to keep himself healthy, he will play for one more year at LSU. He is so talented that more than one legendary running back called for the NFL rules to be changed so he could be eligible. As things stand, players must be three years removed from high school to declare for the draft.

This play against Syracuse shows the essence of Fournette. (Honestly, his badass beard-with-out-a-mustache also communicates a lot. Bold facial hair configuration.) So, here’s what you’re about to check out, if you happened to miss it when it happened. The quarterback is all but dead to rights. As the pocket collapses, oh-shoot-he’s-down-for-a-loss groans emerge as if he’s been sacked. Instead, hark! and lo!, out of the wilderness emerges a savior, a hero, Leonard Fournette, who gets the ball and hauls ass down the field for a 48-yard gain.

The Fournette story was overshadowed by a string of disappointing losses for the Tigers and distracting drama involving head coach Les Miles’ future with the organization.
