High Salary W

Alexander Ovechkin-Washington Capitals ($9,200): Ovechkin should be in a fantasy lineup every night, but the problem is that he’s really expensive. However, most times he’s worth the price. Today he gets the Winnipeg Jets, a team that gives up over three goals a game and is ranked 24th against opposing left wingers. Ovechkin has a four-game point streak and seems likely to continue that in this one. Just a week ago he faced off against these same Jets and put up 7.5 fantasy points. Ovechkin is a superstar who is surrounded by playmakers- take Ovie and enjoy the points.

Phil Kessel-Pittsburgh Penguins ($7,300):  If you are choosing to participate in the early games, you may want to select Kessel over Ovechkin. It will save you a bunch of cap room yet the production will still be there. Kessel had a monster two-goal game in San Jose on Tuesday and always has a chance to light the lamp when he’s on the ice.

Zach Parise-Minnesota Wild ($7,500): Parise has only been back for four games, and while it’s been a bit of a slow start, the talented winger can heat up at any time. He injured his knee in early November and had put up nine points in 12 games before doing so. It’s taken him a while to get it back, but Parise should be back to his normal self soon. He faces a good matchup tonight at home against Colorado and should be counted on to help your lineup.

High Value W

T.J. Oshie-Washington Capitals ($6,000): Oshie is in the early contests, but if you’re playing, he should be in your lineup. He’s been playing with Alexander Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom, two guys who always make those around them better. In his last time out Oshie torched the Canadiens for two goals. Roll with him today in a favorable matchup in Winnipeg.

Milan Lucic-Los Angeles Kings ($4,700): Another early play, Lucic has points in three of his last four games. The Penguins could seem like a tough matchup for the veteran winger, but Pittsburgh has struggled to stop opposing left wingers this season. If your taking guys like Ovechkin and Kessel, sprinkle in some value with Lucic and his low salary.

Matt Hoffman-Ottawa Senators ($5,600): Hoffman won’t cost you as much as the high-priced wingers, but he’ll perform just as well. He’s got 25 points in 21 games and has been a key component of Ottawa’s offense. The last time he took the ice was Thursday against Chicago. All he did in that game was register two goals and an assist, good enough for 11.5 fantasy points. While that sort of production shouldn’t be expected all the time, Hoffman has been a good source of points all season at a reasonable salary.

Tomas Tatar-Detroit Red Wings ($5,200): Tatar is still available at a reasonable rate considering the fact he’s put up 19 points in 26 games. He’s got points in the last two games and in seven of his last nine. Although he doesn’t always see a ton of ice time in a bottom six role, Tatar makes the most of his opportunities and can be a cheap source of points for your fantasy lineup tonight. He enjoyed over 18 minutes last night and registered an assist and three shots.
