Toronto Blue Jays MVP Josh Donaldson was rewarded for his 2015 season by becoming the MLB 16 cover athlete.

Josh Donaldson had video game like numbers last season for the Blue Jays, so it’s only natural that he gets to be on the cover of the MLB 16 video game.

Here’s an early look at the cover:

Russell Martin was on the cover of the Canadian version of MLB 15; so have Jose Bautista and Brett Lawrie. But this is the first time a Blue Jays player has made it onto the cover in the States. Of course, his attractive play and power hitting was a delight to watch not just for Jays fans, but for all fans around the league.

Also released was a trailer for the game, which was very Donaldson and Jays-centric:

While this may seem like good news, it’s easy to think why Blue Jays fans might not be happy about this.

Video game cover athlete curses are a real and scary thing. Nobody will forget how Ronda Rousey got knocked out so soon after being named the cover athlete for EA Sports UFC 2. That being said, Giants receiver Odell Beckham has managed to avoid the Madden Curse this season, which means all is not hopeless for the Blue Jays slugger now that he’s been named the cover athlete for MLB The Show.
