Derek Carr has the potential to be a franchise quarterback for the Oakland Raiders. He’s shown flashes of that on multiple occasions this season and his talent is unavoidable. That being said, Carr isn’t quite there just yet, which is what was on display when he was faced with the Chiefs’ pass-rush in Week 13 and the second-year quarterback imploded.

Because of their success earlier in the season that had some fans thinking that this team was playoff-bound, watching the Raiders right now is an exercise in frustration. Everyone can see the talent of Carr, Amari Cooper, Khalil Mack, and so forth on this team, but they have a knack for showing their youth by making untimely mistakes and falling short when it matters.

With the loss to Kansas City this week, it’s going to be near impossible for the Raiders to make it into the postseason. In fact, it’s not hard to imagine this team trailing off even further in the coming weeks as this inexperienced bunch tries to weather the hardships of a long NFL season.

It’s not hopeless in Oakland; this is a team that it wouldn’t be surprising to see heavily in the postseason fold as soon as next year. For now, though, they’re trending downward and that seems unlikely to stop over the last four weeks of the season.
. (5-7). Previous: . oakland raiders. 14. team. 28
