10 potential head coach replacements for Chuck Pagano
9. Mike Shula
Another candidate that might not necessarily be a top candidate, but will certainly draw interest from around the league after this season, could be Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Mike Shula.
The son of the greatest coach of all time, Don Shula, Shula has coaching in his blood. He had head coach experience with the Alabama Crimson Tide, and while it didn’t work out well with him there, he has rebuilt his value as a coach in the NFL.
The work that he has done with the Panthers in 2015, has been nothing short of extraordinary. Going into the season, everyone thought the Panthers would be doomed as they were losing receiving targets left and right.
Instead of falling apart, the Panthers have rolled to an undefeated season to date and their quarterback Cam Newton has become the favorite to win MVP.
While much of it is the growth of Newton, it can’t be denied the work that Shula has done with him. In Indianapolis, the team is at similar crossroads with Andrew Luck, a talented young quarterback that is waiting to take that next step as a quarterback in the league.
If the Colts move on from Chuck Pagano after the season, Shula would be intriguing option, as the work that he has done with Newton this season, has been nothing short of incredible. If he could get Luck playing at an MVP level, the Colts are contenders in the AFC again.
