NFL Mock Draft 2016: Week 14 edition

3. San Diego Chargers
There has been no team more snake-bitten this season than the San Diego Chargers. At this point, it’s almost like watching a spring training split squad take the field.
Having made such a large investment in Phillip Rivers, the Chargers opt to bolster their offensive line and take Ronnie Stanley out of Notre Dame. Though Stanley’s primary position is left tackle, he can rotate right should the Chargers want to keep King Dunlap slotted in his current position. With Dunlap and Stanley on the ends, Rivers can have personal tea parties in the pocket and worry less about the killer defenses out in Denver and Kansas City.
Stanley has seen his share of turnover in Notre Dame. He’s protected the likes of Malik Zaire, Everett Golson and DeShone Kizer, and all flourished during their time under center in South Bend.
As previously mentioned, the Chargers line up four times per season against the likes of Justin Houston, Vonn Miller, DeMarcus Ware and Tamba Hali. It’s no easy task when the division is filled with guys who make a living in the backfield.
There’s temptation to go with a playmaker at this position, and cornerback is a position of need. However, with Hargreaves off the board San Diego bolsters the line and then looks for deep round playmakers.
