6. Ime Udoka

One of the big problems that the Los Angeles Lakers have had with hiring a head coach, has been the fact that they have hired some retread coaches that haven’t lived up to their prior resumes. The thing is they can’t just go for the name every time and expect it work out.

They have to be able to look beyond the big name and try and find a good assistant coach that is ready to have their run as a head coach in the league. One of those that fits under that category is San Antonio Spurs assistant coach and former player, Ime Udoka.

Udoka is still very young at 38 years old, but the belief around the league is that he will eventually become a head coach. Learning under Gregg Popovich has proven to be a successful coaching tree with the success that Mike Budenholzer has had with the Atlanta Hawks.

He might not be ready yet to be a head coach, but he will some day. Unlike a big name with a big personality, Udoka is more calm in demeanor and is a rational coach. That’s something the Lakers need, as they could use a coach who is calm in pressure-filled situations.

In the Los Angeles market, the heat lamp is always on the head coach and Udoka has the personality to be able to deal with the pressures that come with it.
