4. Mark Madsen

If there was an internal option for the Los Angeles Lakers to turn to if they fire Byron Scott, they do have one in-house candidate that could be the guy for the job. Everyone Mark Madsen as one of the most lovable bench guys on the Lakers during their early 2000’s championship teams.

Having coached the Lakers’ summer league team and been on the bench the last few years, Madsen has experience working with young players and development that could make him an intriguing candidate.

With the way that young players like Julius Randle and D’Angelo Russell are progressing, part of that has to be credited to Madsen for the way that he has been working with his young players.

He’s also a guy that Lakers fans will love forever, as he always brought a great attitude with him on and off the court. If the Lakers are committed to their rebuild and going with a youth movement to build the next big team, the Madsen might be the coach for them right now as he has worked with the young players on the roster and they are used to working with him.

It will be interesting to see if he brings in a new style of offense than the Princeton offense that Scott runs, because it clearly isn’t working for the Lakers.

He might still need time as an assistant and may not be necessarily as experienced yet as his former teammate Tyronn Lue, but he’s getting there and is an option to keep an eye on.
