5. Player development

One of the staples of the 76ers under Hinkie and since Brown took over as head coach has been the high turnover of their roster. Perhaps the most egregious example of this was last season when Philadelphia traded away one of their lottery picks in Michael Carter-Williams and didn’t really get anything of consequence in return. Still, Brown has shown the ability to develop the players who have been along for the ride in Philadelphia.

The best example of this is big man and another lottery pick in Nerlens Noel. Noel showed flashes as a rookie last season, but there were times where the game seemed to overwhelm him a little bit, which are to be expected for a young player put in this kind of situation. Though Noel’s stats may not fully reflect it this season, he’s looked far more comfortable just playing in the NBA this season and the signs of him developing into a highly valuable player for the future are there.

Some of that is due to the natural maturation of Noel, but you can’t discredit the role that Brown played in that, either. One of the most crucial parts of coaching young players is simply getting young players mentally prepared for professional basketball and Brown has shown the ability to do so.
