If it seems like Charles Woodson has been in the NFL for decades, that’s because he has. The former Michigan star was a member of the last Wolverines team to win a national title in 1997 as they shared the crown while the cornerback and punt returner won the school’s third Heisman Trophy.

Rarely does a defensive player ever win the Heisman, but Woodson was a unique talent. He was a lockdown cornerback, an electric returner and he could even split out as a receiver and catch passes. During his time at Michigan, he intercepted 16 passes, caught 21 balls for 370 yards and three touchdowns and returned a punt for a touchdown during his junior season in which he took home the Heisman.

The defensive back was drafted fourth-overall in 1998 by the Oakland Raiders and has gone from cornerback to safety over the years due to his age. He is still contributing heavily to the Raiders’ defense, 17 years after initially getting drafted.

While Woodson had a very successful three-year college career at Michigan, he’s had an even more successful pro career with the Raiders and Packers. He has been named to eight Pro Bowls, was named a first-team All-Pro four times, led the league in interceptions twice, was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year once and won a Super Bowl ring in 2011 with the Packers.

Woodson currently has 972 career tackles, 154 pass deflections, 65 interceptions, 11 touchdowns and 20.0 sacks — and counting.
